The Love Parade Tragedy – Europe’s Deadliest Festival Disaster

On July 24, 2010, the Love Parade electronic music festival in Duisburg, Germany, became the site of one of Europe's deadliest crowd disasters. With approximately 1.4 million people attending, the event was funneled through a single tunnel that served as both entrance and exit to the festival grounds. As density increased inside the narrow passage, people began collapsing from compression. Those trying to escape collided with masses still pushing inward. Twenty-one people died from asphyxiation
